What is a svert boat?
The word 'svert boat' is used to describe certain types of sailboats. A svert boat is usually a small sailboat that is propelled by the wind and stays upright by the weight of the occupants balancing the wind force on the sail. In order to ensure that the boat still moves as straight ahead as possible, and not sideways in the wind, this type of sailboat has a fin under the hull called a 'shroud'.
I couldn't understand anything. Is sailing really that complicated?
Sailing and related concepts often seem complicated and incomprehensible when written down, but we assure you that the practice is much more exciting and easier to understand. All you need to do is summon up the courage and come to the sailing centre. Experienced instructors will be able to explain even the most complex sailing concepts during practical training sessions.
What if I can't sail a svert boat?
No mistake! Instructors will teach you the basics of sailing through effective proficiency training and help you gain confidence through practical sailing. A similar programme is used for training and beginner sailing in many regions of the world.
Who are we expecting to sail?
Different classes of boats give the opportunity to sail for the more experienced as well as for beginners. For example, if you've been sailing but no longer have a good outlet, RS Sailors is waiting for you. Or maybe you've sailed on a big yacht before but would like to take the helm yourself. Or you're just interested in the sea and sailing but don't know where to start.
Can my child or parent sail too?
Yes, you can still. The RS Tera and RS Feva boat classes are designed for children and young people. The RS Quest, for example, is perfect for taking the whole family out to sea, while the RS Aero flat-bottom can be sailed by more experienced enthusiasts using a range of sail sizes, making it suitable for youngsters as well as more serious sailors.
Who are RS Sailors sailing centre clients?
All people who just want to sail short or long term with our help. Children and young people who want to learn to sail and hone their skills later. To enjoy the sea and the camaraderie, to do fun things together in the summer, to adventure, travel or camp in sailing and to make new friends. What to wear when you go sailing, what to take with you?
When you go sailing, it's a good idea to wear comfortable sports clothes that you feel comfortable in. In cooler weather, it's a good idea to wear a windproof jacket. It usually feels warmer on the shore than at sea, so it's a good idea to dress a little thicker at first. Light, soft-soled sports shoes are a good choice for footwear. It's also a good idea to take a hat, gloves, warm socks and sunscreen to protect yourself from the cold and excessive sun.As sailing inevitably involves some contact with the water, and the water tends to be wet, it's a good idea to bring a change of dry clothes and footwear just in case.
Is it a new club and do I have to change my current club?
RS Sailors Sailing Centre is not a separate yacht club, so everyone can sail, regardless of club affiliation. However, the centre is also home to the NGO Pirita Sailing Club, which is open to sailors from other clubs as well as newcomers to sailing.
